Donate to the Pennsville Public Library

Due to state funding cuts, the township has decreased the library‘s funding to $40,000 for 2010, and stopped paying medical benefits for library employees. In 2009 the township provided $135,000 and in 2008 $150,000, in addition to covering the employees' medical benefits.

$40,000 represents a little more than 20% of the library's annual operating expense. While the Board of Trustees is looking into cutting costs and seeking alternate funding, it takes time to develop alternate revenue streams.

We Need Your Help!

We're about $100,000 short of what we need to operate for the year.

Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to the library. Checks should be made payable to the Pennsville Public Library, and can be either dropped off at the library's front desk, or mailed to:

Please help us keep the library doors open!

The Pennsville Public Library is organized as a Library Association, rather than a Municipal Library. NJ state law mandates funding (from property taxes) for its 305 Municipal Libraries. As a Library Association, Pennsville Library is one of only 7 public libraries in the state that does not receive mandatory tax funding.

For 73 years the library has been supported in large part by annual donations from Pennsville Township. However, due to recent cuts in the state budget, the township will probably no longer be able to provide any funding for the library.

The Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library are diligently exploring alternative funding in order to keep the library doors open.

Contributions can also be left at the library. It takes a lot of money to run the library, and all your donations are tax deductible.
