Pennsville Library Goes Green

Save On Electricity - And Help the Library At The Same Time!

Thanks to New Jersey's Energy Choice program, you can now choose the company that provides your electricity - just as you can shop for other products and services.

The Library has partnered with Viridian Energy to offer Greener energy at affordable prices. You can reduce the amount of money you spend on electricity, and help the Library pay its bills at the same time. We will post more information shortly on our Save On Electricity page, or you can visit our portal with Viridian to sign up.

Solar Panels Are On Line

The newly installed solar panels on the roof of the library are now generating power. Over the years, the library has received many bequests, some of which were restricted for use only on capital improvements. In an effort to increase the library's economic and ecologic sustainability, the Trustees decided to utilize some of these funds to install a 34kW solar power generation system.

The system, installed by Trinity Solar (with a 25 year warranty), provides:

  • all of the electricity for the library
  • additional power which can be sold back to the grid
  • 10 points towards Pennsville’s “Sustainable Jersey” certification

The library's fiscal year runs from May 1 to April 30.  In 2009 we received $135,000 of our $165,000 operating budget from the township. In 2010 our funding was cut to $40,000 from the township.

Unless we receive substantial funding from alternate sources rather quickly, we will soon run out of operating capital.
